Ellis wants everyone to live in a home they can afford. As former State Representative, Ellis sponsored laws that:

•Authorized the freezing of property tax assessment increases for long term residents (ten years or more of continuance occupancy).

•Provided senior citizens and other tenants of Federal subsidized housing to have a right to purchase their building before it can be sold to a private developer. This legislation helps to insure seniors and other residents of these building continue to have an affordable place to live.

•Expanded the income limits to $25,000 for seniors wishing to participate in the Property Tax Deferral Act, which allows senior citizens to defer paying property taxes on property owned by them.

•Established a program to make available lists of all public and private housing accessible to handicapped persons.

•Permitted unrelated senior citizens and handicapped persons to have subsidized housing. This law allows more seniors to live in subsidized housing and makes it possible for two persons to care for each other.
