As State Representative, Ellis Levin worked tirelessly for seniors.
He was the chief sponsor of new laws protecting the rights of seniors, including:

•Excluded Social Security payments from taxation under the Illinois Income Tax Act.

•Expanded the amount of financial assets the spouse of a nursing home patient may have for the patient to continue to qualify for Medicaid assistance.

•Provider Assessment Program - delivered over $735 million in federal Medicare funding and reimbursements to hospitals and nursing homes while maintaining current state funding levels for Jewish Nursing Homes and Mount Sinai Hospital.

•Prohibited local governments from coercing not-for-profits like the Jewish Council on the Elderly to make contributions to the local government in lieu of property taxes by refusing to provide zoning and other services.

•Guaranteed the protection of the personal fnds of nursing home residents.
